Public Invited To Meet Delegation From Shimoda, Japan In Newport

Shimoda Mayor Shunsuke Kusuyama, members of his family, and four students visitng Newport from July 16 to July 20 in conjunction with the 32nd Annual Black Ships Festival will all be present. The students will be staying with families of Rogers High School students who visited Shimoda back in May.

The Sister City program was created by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 and is designed to create partnerships between cities that are similar in size, have common features, and an interest in developing cultural, historic and economic relationships.
Along with Shimoda, Newport is also Sister Cities with Imperia, Italy; Kinsale, Ireland; Ponta Delgada, the Azores; Skiathos, Greece; and St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.
