Governor Gina Raimondo signed an executive order announcing Governor’s Bay Day 2018.

Bay Day will take place on Sunday, July 29.

"Rhode Island's beaches are some of the best in the world--after all, there's a reason we're called the Ocean State. Bay Day is one of my favorite traditions that celebrates the best of our state--our beautiful parks and beaches, our thriving recreational fishing industry and our commitment to protecting our natural resources for future generations to enjoy. I hope Rhode Islanders come out to the beach on the 29th for a great Bay Day,” said Raimondo.

Governor’s Bay Day

Governor's Bay Day will include free parking at all Rhode Island state beaches, as well as fishing in Rhode Island's salt waters without a fishing license.

"We're delighted to welcome Rhode Islanders and tourists to visit our spectacular state beaches on Governor's Bay Day. This year marks the 30th Bay Day celebration, and presents the perfect opportunity to highlight the progress we've made cleaning up Narragansett Bay and celebrate the vitality of our coastal waters. We invite everyone to take some time out on the 29th and explore our beautiful Bay and gorgeous state beaches. Enjoying these magnificent natural resources with family, friends, and visitors creates memories that will last a lifetime,” said DEM Director Janet Coit.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) will also waive the roundtrip fare on all service to South County beaches on Route 66 (URI/Galilee). Service to the beach will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

Parking will be free at all state beaches, which are:

-Charlestown Breachway, Charlestown, RI

-East Beach, Charlestown, RI

-East Matunuck State Beach, South Kingstown, RI

-Misquamicut State Beach, Westerly, RI

-Roger W. Wheeler State Beach, Narragansett, RI

-Salty Brine State Beach, Narragansett, RI

-Scarborough State Beaches (North and South), Narragansett, RI

As GoLocalProv reported, WaterFire will begin the 2019 season with a basin lighting on Thursday, May 23 or the National Association of State Treasurers Treasury Management Training Symposium and the first full lighting of the season will be Saturday, June 22.

Waterfire is Providence's signature event bringing in people from all over New England and the country to see it.
