RI’s Viola Davis Makes Forbes' Top Ten List of Highest-Paid Actresses — in World

Viola Davis
Central Falls native Viola Davis has cracked the top-ten list of highest-paid actresses — in the world.

Forbes reported their new list this week, noting “with few movies premiering, TV and streaming are where the Benjamins are.”

Coming in at number ten, Forbes pins Davis’ 2020 earnings at $15.5 million.

"Davis makes the list for the first time thanks to seven-figure checks from her roles as Annalise Keating on How to Get Away with Murder and Ma Rainey in Netflix’s film adaption of the August Wilson play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom," writes Forbes.

The distinction makes the latest success for Academy award, Emmy award and Tony award-winning Davis, who graced the cover of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

Davis, however, urged high school graduates in Rhode Island this year to pursue significance over success. SEE VIDEO HERE

Highest-Paid Actresses

Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara tops Forbes new rankings of the world’s highest-paid actresses at $43 million for 2020, as the TV star “led a surge of small-screen paydays that eclipsed those in the movie business," wrote Forbes.

Hollywood veteran Angelina Jolie ($35 million) and Red Notice star Gal Gadot ($31 million) come in second and third on the list.
