2 Men Murdered, 2 Women Stabbed in 24 Hours - Not One Providence Mayoral Candidate Has Said a Word

From Sunday morning to Monday morning Providence was hit with another deadly violent round of crime.  

It is another blitz of violence that has hit the city and is putting Providence on pace to have its most violent year in history.

Early on Sunday morning, GoLocal first reported that two men were shot and killed.

According to police, a fight broke out outside an after-hours party on Cheshire Street around 3:30 Sunday morning. 

The victims were believed to be in their mid-to-late twenties.

Police say the men were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

There is no additional information being released at this time.

Then, two women were stabbed in Providence on Sunday night.

One of the victims is currently in the hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the stabbing took place on Grover Street shortly after 10:15 PM on Sunday. 

One female was a juvenile, who was not seriously injured. 

The other female, 20, is in critical condition and underwent surgery. 

 

Mayor Candidates Quiet

None of the four active members running for mayor of Providence issued any statements, posted to Facebook or tweeted about the violence or loss of life.

Councilwoman Nirva LaFortune, Gonzalo Cuervo and Brett Smiley all tweeted about Father’s Day.

Former Providence City Council President Michael Solomon has not tweeted since 2018.

None of the candidates posted to Facebook about the violence either. None of the four issued a statement or press release.

Sitting Mayor Jorge Elorza did not publicly comment on the weekend's violence.  He is a candidate for Governor of RI.
