Barrington Couple Now Facing 11 Charges, 2 Felonies for Role in Newport Wedding Melee

The well-connected Barrington couple, David and Rachael Onik, have been rearraigned and hit with additional charges related to the wedding melee which occurred on September 10 on Bowen’s Wharf

According to Newport Police, the ongoing investigation sparked the need to file more charges against the couple.

On Tuesday, October 17, Rachael Onik -- who had been previously charged on five misdemeanor courts -- was rearraigned on two additional charges of "Felony Larceny from Person" -- because she allegedly tried to disarm Newport Patrol Officer White and Newport Police Patrol Officer Cole.

During the incident, Rachael Onik went to grab Officer White's holstered gun and Rachael actively tried to pull Officer White's gun out of the holster but she did not have any success, according to Newport Police. 

Rachael Onik then moved onto Officer Cole as Rachael grabbed his holstered gun. Rachael actively tried to pull his gun out of the holster but Rachael did not have any success.

The two additional charges are felonies.

David Onik was rearraigned on October 13 on four additional charges. He had previously only been arraigned on one charge - disorderly conduct. 

The new charges include simple assault because he assaulted two Landing Restaurant employees, according to Newport Police. 

As GoLocal previously reported, he is a business partner in a pet food company with Marc and David Perlman, the owners of Ocean State Job Lot. The company is named Priority Pet Products. Marc Perlman, the CEO of Job Lot, also serves as President of Priority Food Products. David Onik is the Treasurer of the pet company.

A body cam video secured by GoLocal through an Access to Public Records Act request recorded the Oniks telling the police that they were going to call David Onik's father — a prominent businessman — as well as call former Congressman David Cicilline.
