Business Owners Make Their Case to State Officials

Hundreds of small business leaders crowded into the Radisson Hotel in Warwick yesterday for a summit on how Rhode Island can become a more friendly place for business. Several top state officials turned out for the event to hear from business owners on what they can do better. Those attending included Governor Lincoln Chafee, General Treasurer Gina Raimondo, House Speaker Gordon Fox, Secretary of State Ralph Mollis, and Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed.

Last year, the General Assembly passed a series of bills intended on making it easier to do business in Rhode Island. A new package of legislative proposals is expected to be crafted based on feedback from yesterday’s summit, according to Greg Pare, a spokesman for Paiva Weed.

The event was organized by the U.S. Small Business Administration and Johnson & Wales University.
