Helena Foulkes claims that when she became the president of CVS in 2014, she learned about the actions of OxyContin manufacturer Purdue Pharma and their actions that helped to cause the opioid crisis.
About 1 million Americans died, and thousands of Rhode Islanders. All the while, companies like Purdue Pharma and CVS made billions.
She ran for governor in Rhode Island in 2022, and she is running again in 2026.
On GoLocal LIVE in January of 2022, Foulkes said, "I am absolutely devastated for the families that have gone through [the opioid crisis]. It is just crushing for them and for me to think about that. I'm also really angry. I am angry because Purdue Pharma, in particular, lied to all of us, and that really makes me angry.”
But GoLocal has followed the money, and Foulkes’ claims about her “anger” unravel.
Thursday, exclusively on GoLocal, we unveil new ties between Foulkes' gubernatorial campaign and a top lobbyist for Purdue Pharma.
