Former North Prov School Superintendent Morisseau Arrested for Embezzlement

Former North Providence School Superintendent Bridget Morisseau has been arrested on felony and embezzlement charges, according to North Providence Police.

Morisseau stepped down as Superintendent in July of 2018.

She is charged with embezzlement and fraudulent conversion and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The Investigation

In July 2018, police learned of an internal audit being performed by independent auditor, Robert Civetti into the alleged misuse of the taxpayer-funded credit card by Morisseau.

North Providence Police sent correspondence to the then Chairman of the School Committee, Anthony Marciano requesting a copy of the audit for review.

In September 2018, investigators received the internal audit report and opened an investigation.

North Providence Police Detective, Christopher Cote led the investigation, working in concert with Assistant Attorney General John Moreira, Chief of the Attorney General’s, Public Integrity Unit, Assistant Attorney General Peter Roklan and Detective James Brown of State Police Financial Crimes Unit.

According to police, the investigation remains active and there is potential for additional suspects and charges.
