Impact of Coronavirus on Rhode Island Colleges and Universities

The coronavirus has impacted nearly every college in Rhode Island.
The coronavirus has impacted high schools and colleges all over the country.

In Rhode Island, colleges including Brown, Providence, URI, and others have moved to or are in the process of moving to online instruction. While no high schools have closed to date, Rhode Island Department of Education officials have asked school districts to submit plans for online learning.

"As you are aware, novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has continued to spread across the country and the world. Although there is still great uncertainty about the ultimate extent and severity of the pandemic, we must be prepared for a situation in which the virus becomes very widespread in the United States, including Rhode Island,” said Brown President Christina Paxson in a letter to the Brown community.

The number of coronavirus cases globally has increased to 126,000 and the number of deaths has grown to more than 4,600.

There have been five confirmed cases of coronavirus in Rhode Island, and according to the respective universities, no confirmed cases on campus.
