In Just 6 Hours Overnight - Double Shooting, Stabbing, Multiple Shots Fired in Providence

Providence police responded to multiple reports of violence in the city overnight.
Providence police responded to reports of a double shooting, a stabbing, and multiple instances of shots fired in the city overnight on Tuesday -- all in less than a six-hour span.

The latest episodes of violence come after community leaders gathered on Friday in the wake of five homicides in two weeks in the city.

Tuesday 7:25 PM — Shots Fired

On 8/25/20 at approximately 1925 hours police received a call for a report of shots fired into a vehicle in front of the Pizza Queen on Smith St. 

Upon arrival to the scene police observed the vehicle...and photographed three apparent ballistic defects: one in the rear center of the bumper, one in the right edge of the trunk lid along the tail light assembly, and one in the left lower bumper area. 

Tuesday 9:34 PM — Stabbing

On Tuesday, August 25th, 2020 at approximately 2134hours, police were dispatched to Rhode Island Hospital 593 Eddy Street for report of a stabbing.

Police were advised by RI Hospital staff that [the victim] was stabbed 3 times in the back. 

Tuesday 11:24 PM — Double Shooting 

On August 25, 2020 at approximately 2324 hours police responded to Roger Williams hospital (825 Chalkstone Ave) for a report of two males with gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival police spoke with hospital staff who stated to police that approximately 10 minutes prior [a car] drove by and dropped on two males who are both suffering from gunshot wounds. Hospital staff also stated to police that sometime later an older model sedan also drove by and appeared to be looking for the victims before driving away at a high rate of speed.

Wednesday 12:37 AM — Felony Assault With Firearm

On Wednesday 08/26/2020, at approximately 0037 hours, [police were in] the area of Westminster Street when they were notified by a male subject that he observed [an individual] fire two rounds at an unidentified subject in the area of Bucklin Street and Mawney Street.

 

Police Union Decries Violence

The Providence FOP Lodge #3 posted the following on Tuesday, about violence in the city on Monday. 

"Last nights acts of violence in the city included officers responding to RIH to take a report of a male subject stabbed. Police also responded to a confirmed shots fired scene on Smith St where 11 shell casings, 1 projectile, and 1 live round was found," wrote the FOP. 

On Monday, the FOP wrote of the weekend's violence:

"So far this weekend Police have responded to a subject walking around on Branch Ave with a rifle, a robbery at knife point also on Branch Ave, shots fired off of Broad St, and shots fired into a car on Orms St. When will enough be enough?" the FOP wrote.
