John Ghiorse: Jose Update Friday PM

John Ghiorse
Now that Harvey and Irma are no longer and are more or less out of the major daily headlines, my attention has turned to Jose, a storm that formed 9 days ago and has been wandering around in the Atlantic in the wake of monster storm Irma. Jose is no Irma.  At one time, early on, it attained Category 4 status but for the past several days has been looping around south of Bermuda as at Category 1 or less.

Today Jose is on the move again and, as I see it, likely to re-intensify to perhaps a Category 2 or 3  hurricane in the next day or two. It's projected track may bring it very close to Southern New England by next week, say late Tuesday or Wednesday. By that time it could well weaken again because of its slow movement over colder ocean waters north of the Gulf Stream.

My best advice at this time is for us to pay close attention to the latest on Jose as the storm poses an increasing threat to us, especially coastal areas, the Cape and Islands. We should see some spectacular surf begin to show up at our local beaches in the next few days. I'll have more on Jose over the weekend and early next week.
