Man Shot on Rt. 95 -- State and Providence Police Investigating Multiple Shootings in City Overnight

State and Providence police responded to multiple shootings in the city overnight, including a man being shot in the leg on Rt. 95. 

First Incident 

Shortly before 2 AM Thursday morning, police responded to the area of Pocasset Avenue and Bancroft Street for a report of shots fired.

Police met with a male, who was sitting inside his vehicle with the passenger airbag deployed.

According to police, officers observed bullet holes in the passenger side door.

Police said the victim was uncooperative; the vehicle was towed by the city.

Detectives are currently investigating. 

 

Second Incident 

At approximately 3:15 AM, State Police requested assistance from Providence Police on Route 10 at the Route 95 on-ramp. 

State police said a male occupant of a vehicle they stopped was shot in the leg, he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. 

At the hospital, police said they spoke with the victim, who said he believed the shooting happened on Rt. 95 between Thurbers Avenue and Elmwood Avenue.

State Police are handling the investigation.
