Manager of Federal Hill Restaurant Charged With Disorderly Conduct Following Stabbing Incident

The manager of Saje Kitchen on Atwells Avenue - which was ordered temporarily closed following a stabbing on November 8 - has been arrested, GoLocal has learned. 

Andre Samuel, age 32, was charged with disorderly conduct for reportedly assaulting a suspect during the incident. 

Samuel pled not guilty and is facing a pretrial conference on November 25.

Report Details Alleged Assault

While Rhode Island Corporation documents list the registered agent for Saje as Jessica Wilkin, Providence Police identified Samuel as the owner in the incident report obtained by GoLocal. 

As GoLocal first reported, police said when they arrived at Saje on November 8 for the report of a stabbing, they encountered a male in his 50s bleeding with multiple lacerations on his face. 

According to the police report:

While waiting for the rescue, [a Providence Police officer] was pulled to the side by the owner of the restaurant, who is known to police as Dre [Andre Samuel] who reported that there had been an altercation at the comedy event that was being held. 

Furthermore, after the fight moved outside [the suspect] had a knife and it was at this time that he punched him in the face and knocked him out.

Samuel was arrested on November 14 and posted bail. 

Samuel’s attorney Scott Lutte did not respond to request for comment at time of publication.

In October 2023, a woman was arrested after she was refused reentrance into the establishment — and assaulted a police officer

An officer on patrol on Federal Hill early Sunday morning for the closing time at multiple bars said he saw a woman screaming outside of Saje Kitchen shortly before 2 AM. 

The restaurant is located at 332 Atwells Avenue.

According to police, the woman was being refused reentrance into the establishment and was subsequently told by police to leave the area.

It was at that time the suspect — later identified as Taylor Martone, age 27 — reportedly hit the officer with a closed fist multiple times.Police say Martone resisted arrest and bit the officer on the arm, breaking skin.  

After additional responding officers appeared on the scene, police said force was used to subdue Martone.
