Providence Police Officer and Others Hospitalized After Serious Crash on Federal Hill

A Providence Police officer and another vehicle were involved in a serious collision on Federal Hill in Providence early Sunday morning at the corner of Atwells Avenue and Dean Street.

The condition of the others in the second vehicle is not known.

"[An officer] was responding to a call to assist another officer for backup. On the way there, he got into a collision with [a vehicle]," said Perez.
Perez said the police officer had activated his sirens and overhead lights prior to the accident.
According to Perez, the Providence Police Traffic Division responded - and that the driver of the other vehicle was cited for multiple traffic violations.
"The operator of the other vehicle and two female passengers had minor injuries," said Perez. "The operator was cited for failure to yield to a public safety vehicle, illegal u-turn, and lack of insurance."
"The officer involved has been released, and I’m hearing he’s fine," said Perez.
Federal Hill Stabbing and Closure
Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a restaurant on Federal Hill Friday night.
A fight reportedly broke out during a comedy show at Saje Kitchen on Atwells Avenue and multiple people were injured.
As a result of the incident, the Providence Board of Licenses has shut down Saje for 72 hours.
About Incident
Shortly after 10 PM on Friday, police were called to 332 Atwells Avenue - Saje Kitchen and Bar - for a report of a stabbing.
Police said when they arrived, they encountered a male in his 50s to be bleeding with multiple lacerations on his face.
The man was taken by rescue to the hospital.
Witnesses told police that a fight broke out inside the establishment during the comedy show before spilling out onto the sidewalk.
A man was reportedly in possession of a knife; a security guard was able to secure the weapon.
The knife was confiscated by police as evidence.
At approximately the same time, police received a call that a male stabbing victim had walked into Roger Williams Hospital with injuries to his stomach.
Detectives are currently investigating the incident.
