Weekend Gun Violence in Providence Continues - 6 Shootings and One Dead

It has been another weekend of shootings in Providence. The violence continued Saturday afternoon and overnight.

A man was shot Saturday afternoon in Providence, and police confiscated a weapon after reports of shots fired at an after-hours party in the city Sunday morning. 

The latest incidents came after a man was shot and killed Saturday morning in what was the fifth shooting in the city in 36 hours.

There have now been 36 murders in the last 16 months in Providence. 

 

About Latest Gun Violence

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Saturday, police responded to a report of a shooting on Union Avenue. 

Police learned the victim was sitting in his vehicle at the location when two suspects came up to the vehicle and began shooting. 

Cranston police were also called as the victim fled on foot to Alto Street. 

Police are currently investigating. 

 

After-Hours Party

Providence police responded around 5 a.m. Sunday morning to reports of shots fired on Elmwood Avenue — along with reports that there were guns at an after-hours party nearby. 

At the location, police stopped and searched a vehicle where they found a firearm and magazine. 

The driver and occupants of the vehicle were detained for questioning.
