Where did the term “leaf peeping” come from anyway?
Seems to me, from what I’m seeing and from reports I’ve had, the fall foliage colors are somewhat muted and spotty this year probably due to the hot, dry summer. I’m not sure the Chamber of Commerce wants you to hear that.

Trivia Quiz #1: I was born in Westerly Hospital in 1936 and became famous on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In from 1968-1973 playing Gladys Ormphby opposite Arte Johnson’s “dirty old man”. Who am I and where am I now?
I know we haven’t had much tropical action up here lately and thankfully most storms have stayed away from highly populated areas, but we’ve had 16 named storms so far with probably more to go. As predicted, this season has seen far above normal activity.

Memory lane
Whatever happened to Father Guido Sarducci of Saturday Night Live fame? And Stuart Smalley? Oh, I forgot, he was elected to the U. S. Senate in 2008.
You had to know when he came here that Randy Moss was not going to retire as a Patriot, stay in the area and settle down to become a pillar of the local community a la Steve Grogan.
Is there anything better than heading out to one of our local farms or orchards with the kids on a beautiful, crisp October day, taking in the sights, rides and mazes then topping it off with a slice of pie, a candied apple and cup of hot mulled cider?
The big, beautiful birch tree in my back yard that usually turns a glorious yellow in the fall is a ghastly brown right now. I hope it’s not dead. But my lawn has recovered nicely after contracting a severe case of lawn-leprosy back there in August.

I can’t believe that the Bruins are already a couple of games into their season and the Celts are about to begin theirs. Summer isn’t over yet. Is it?

There was a touch of frost in a few spots here in Rhode Island last Sunday morning but the official low at T. F. Green was only 40 degrees. The growing season is still underway but may take a hit next week.
