Heat Index Could Exceed 100 Degrees in RI - Heat Advisory Issued Through Wednesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for Rhode Island and southern New England on Monday that remains in effect through Wednesday. 

The heat index could exceed 103 degrees -- see below. 

The following is the NWS forecast as of Monday morning:

Today

Isolated showers between 1pm and 2pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 100. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm, then isolated showers between 9pm and 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tuesday

Sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 100. Light southwest wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tuesday Night

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday

A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Southwest wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday Night

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 11pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11pm and 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday

A chance of showers before 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 85. West wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
