NEW: Ortiz Released from Boston Hospital

Retired Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was released from Mass General Hospital Hospital on Saturday.

Ortiz’s release comes more than six weeks after he was shot and nearly killed at a bar in Santo Domingo in his native Dominican Republic.

”We understand that David has been released from MGH [Massachusetts General Hospital],” a team spokesperson told the Boston Channel 25. “There will be an update on his condition early next week."

During the weeks in recovery, Foxwoods Resort continued to promote “Big Papi’s House.”  After Ortiz was shot, he nearly died and under went three operations.

One element of the campaign, a billboard that overlooks Route 95 south in the Providence market, continues to publicly promote Ortiz for Foxwoods. Billboards are bought by the month, but the vinyl covers can be switched out within days. 

The ‘fun’ campaign features Ortiz, gambling and flirting with a group of women who are poolside at the casino.
