U.S. Added 850K Jobs in June

The United States economy added 850,000 jobs in June — while the unemployment rate rose to 5.9 percent, from 5.8 percent.

Economists had expected gains of roughly 700,000 jobs and a drop of 0.1 to 0.2 percent in the unemployment rate as Americans have increased activities like air travel, staying at hotels, eating in restaurants and visiting movie theaters,” reported NBC on Friday.

"None of our economic growth happened by chance or accident," President Joe Biden Tweeted Friday. "It’s our economic plan. Our vaccine strategy. Our American Rescue Plan."

* Among the unemployed, the number of job leavers--that is, unemployed persons who quit or voluntarily left their previous job and began looking for new employment—increased by 164,000 to 942,000 in June. 

* In June, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) increased by 233,000 to 4.0 million, following a decline of 431,000 in May.
