Providence Bus Tunnel Flooded, Water Main Break

A water main break caused the Hope Street Tunnel in Providence to flood late Thursday night, November 20 around 11 p.m.

RIPTA crews and Providence crews were on scene throughout the night to begin resolving the problem. 

"Providence Water has identified the location of the water main leak to be in the vicinity of  Benefit Street at Waterman Street.

We are diligently working to control the flow of the water in order to start making the repairs" Providence water said in a released statement. 

"We are making every effort to minimize the effects of the shut down to reduce the amount of customers who may be without water once the repairs commence" the statement from Providence water added. 

The Hope Street Tunnel is currently closed for bus traffic.
