Pena was located between a guardrail and a chain-link fence along Route 95 northbound. According to police, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased by Cranston rescue personnel.

About Crash

Police say Pena was operating a 2011 Suzuki GSXR 750 traveling south on Wellington Avenue from the Providence line with a friend who was also operating a motorcycle, and that Pena "accelerated at a high rate of speed where he lost control in the area of 372 Wellington Avenue where there is a slight bend in the roadway."

Pena struck the curb on the west side of Wellington Avenue and was thrown from the motorcycle where he came to rest between the guardrail and a chain link fence bordering Route 95 north.

Police say Pena was not wearing a helmet at the time. The investigation remains under investigation.

“As a reminder to all operators of any type of motorcycle as the spring and summer season approaches, extreme caution should be exercised along with the proper safety equipment to prevent injuries," said Cranston Police. "The roads are always bearing the remnants of the winter road treatments including sand and other debris, so it is equally important to maintain proper speeds and obey all traffic laws.”
