Providence Police Supervisor Arrested for Allegedly Drunkenly Spitting in Face of 17-Year- Old Girl

A Providence Police Communications Supervisor was arrested by West Greenwich Police.
A Providence Police Communications Chief was arrested for allegedly drunkenly spitting in the face of a 17-year-old minor, according to a West Greenwich Police Department arrest report.

Alfred Lamothe was arrested at the Residence Inn at Centre of New England Boulevard on May 14, after a mother and grandmother had the hotel call the police after they said Lamothe had spit in the face of a teenage girl -- their daughter and grand-daughter --  following a disagreement among minors in the hotel pool.

West Greenwich Police Department Sgt. Keith Laliberte and Officer James Tiernan were dispatched to the scene, where the latter reported the following.

“Coventry police were already on the scene, and [said] that an altercation happened between the victim and some girls a the pool, words were exchanged and they left,” wrote Laliberte in his report narrative. “Soon after a male came over to their location and began to yell at the victim and at some point spit in the victim’s face. This all took place in the lobby area.”

Upon tracking down Lamothe in his room, who denied any knowledge of the incident, Officer Tiernan wrote that a man with Lamothe noted the two had been drinking downstairs before the argument ensued, and then returned to the room to continue to have more beers. “Lamothe was argumentative, rude, and displayed a poor attitude while standing with the Coventry PD Officers," wrote Tiernan.

From the report:

Tiernan then inquired why there were so many people in the residence rooms, and it was explained that Lamothe is the track coach for the West Warwick Jr. High track team, and they had won states in Johnston, and this was a party for the team. There were several teenage kids in the separate room watching TV from where alcohol was being consumed by adults. The teens appeared fine and there did not appear to be any issue with them.

Victim’s Mom Speaks

Kim Reichsteller of Danielson, Connecticut -- the victim's mother --  spoke to the incident on Friday.

“We were there for a niece's birthday party, with a bunch of 11 and 12-year-olds. My daughter, who is 17, came to my niece's defense," said Reichsteller. “When the [spitting] incident happened, we were standing there, and Lamothe totally acted like I wasn't there. He was yelling at the 12-year-olds, and he runs over to my daughter, and he spit in her face.. Meanwhile, she's terrified.  I just wanted to defend my daughter, so I told them at the hotel to call the cops.”

Reichsteller said she has yet to hear anything since pressing charges.

“They haven't called us yet, nothing,” said Reichsteller. “I haven't heard anything, but I did get a copy of the police report, and I saw where it only says disorderly conduct. Where’s the assault? You just can't spit in someone’s face. He was belligerent to the cops when they were there. When we heard about the charge, we thought, he's getting off somehow.”

Lamothe, who was arrested for "disorderly conducted, suspected of using alcohol," was unreachable at a number for his address listed on the police report; a call to his cell phone was not returned on Friday.

“I’ve never met him in my life,” said Reichsteller. “I’m just feel bad that this is what happened after spending $300 a night for a kid’s birthday party.”
