Raimondo and Witman Issue Statements on Pittsburgh Mass Shooting

Witman and Raimondo condemn mass shooting in Pittsburgh
Independent candidate for Mayor of Providence Dianne “Dee Dee” Witman and Governor Gina Raimondo both issued statements in response mass shooting in Pittsburgh on Saturday morning.

“Following a week of threatening actions and violence nationwide, culminating in a tragic shooting at a Synagogue this morning, I can’t help but speak out against the divisive culture that has taken over the country. We, as a society, cannot accept a culture in which individuals are allowed to threaten or carry out violent actions against those they disagree with. Our communities must work harder to come together and find common ground during these, particularly difficult times. We must learn to listen and speak openly with each other, even when we are from different parties or carry different ideas. As a Jewish woman, my heart breaks for the community in Pittsburgh reeling from this senseless act of violence and hatred. As a candidate for public office, I am angry to see those who have dedicated years of their life to public service targeted with hatred and threats. As a human being, I am appalled by both actions and hope that we can change the conversation and bring an end to our nation’s polarization.”

Raimondo said, "The reports of the shooting and lives lost in Pittsburgh this morning are heartbreaking. I'm praying for the entire Tree of Life congregation and Pittsburgh community. I'm also praying that our national leaders end the crisis of inaction and do something to end gun violence."
