Reverend Tutu to Speak at Providence College’s MLK Convocation Ceremony - SEE LIVE

Reverend Nontombi Naomi Tutu will serve as the keynote speaker at Providence College’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation Ceremony.

She is the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The event will take place on Thursday, January 24 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Peterson Recreation Center on the Providence College Campus.

This ceremony will also feature the presentation of the College’s MLK Vision Award to recognize a student, faculty member, staff member, alum or community member who has exemplified Dr. King’s ministry surrounding civil rights issues of equality, freedom, justice, and opportunity for all people.

Attendance for those who are not members of the College community is by invitation-only.

About Tutu

Reverend Tutu is the third child of Archbishop Desmond and Nomalizo Leah Tutu.

She was born in South Africa and has also lived in Lesotho, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

She was educated in Swaziland, the US, and England, and has divided her adult life between South Africa and the US. 

Naomi Tutu's professional experience ranges from being a development consultant in West Africa, to being the program coordinator for programs on race, gender and gender-based violence in education at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town.

In addition, she has taught at the Universities of Hartford and Connecticut, and Brevard College in North Carolina.
