State Dismisses DUI Charges Following Warwick Committee Member’s Arrest

The prosecution for the State of Rhode Island on Monday dropped DUI charges against Warwick School Committee member Karen Bachus.

As GoLocal was first to report, Bachus was arrested in February 2023 on charges of refusing a breathalyzer test — and assaulting a police officer. 

She has been represented by attorney Jason Knight, who is a Rhode Island State Representative.

Bachus, who also faced charges of assaulting a police officer, pleaded nolo contender — no contest. 

On Monday, Justice James Caruolo filed the simple assault charge for one year, a de facto probation. 

She now owes the state $96 in court charges.
