About Incident

Shortly before 2 PM on Thursday, police were called to Nathanael Greene Middle School on Chalkstone Avenue to respond to the school being placed on lockdown.

A school administrator told police that several students were congregating in a section of the school that they were not allowed to be in, as there were reportedly repeated problems in that area.

Police said the school principal came over to search the students’ backpacks and found that one contained an unloaded firearm. Two of the students then fled the scene.

Providence police detectives seized the gun and currently investigating.
