Three Female Juveniles Under Investigation for Fire at Providence Middle School on Monday

A fire was reportedly set by juvenile females at a Providence middle school on Monday. 

Police are currently investigating.

Shortly before 2 PM on Monday, police responded to Gilbert Stuart Middle School off of Elmwood Avenue for a report of arson.

Police said they met with the Dean of Students, who said there were three juvenile females at the school.

The dean told police one of the juveniles set fire to a poster in a school hallway, which triggered the fire alarms. 

According to police, there was damage to the wall, floor, as well as lockers where the fire occurred. 

Police report that the school dean said the two other juvenile females had then smoked cigarettes in a bathroom before heading to the basement, where they then lit a box on fire before fleeing the school. 

Upon investigation, police said they observed a box having been burned. 

Detectives and the arson squad are currently investigating.
