Woman Assaulted During Robbery Outside Providence Convenience Store

A woman was punched in the face during a robbery outside of a convenience store in Providence.

About Incident 

Shortly after 5 PM on Monday, police were flagged down in front of 598 Cranston Street for a report of a robbery.

Police met with the victim — a woman in her mid-40s — who said she was walking toward the mini-mart at that location, when a man approached her and tried to take her purse. 

The woman told police that as the suspect grabbed her purse he dropped it — and then punched her in the face with a closed fist. 

According to police, the woman said the suspect was able to take off a number of items that fell out of the purse before fleeing on foot. 

Detectives are currently investigating.
