Cranston FOP Endorses Hopkins

City Councilman and mayoral candidate Kenneth Hopkins announced that the Cranston Police Union Local 301 of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers has endorsed him for mayor of Cranston.

“I am honored to receive the support of the men and women of the Cranston Police Department in my mayoral campaign,” said Hopkins.

Hopkins has now won both the police and fire union endorsements -- his primary opponent Michael Farina had previously won both public safety union endorsements. Hopkins beat Farina by a 3 to 1 margin.

Michael Caramante, President of Local 301 said, “Ken Hopkins is a great supporter of public safety.  He has always conducted himself as a professional and has made our community proud of his service.”

Caramante said that Hopkins “has earned great admiration from anyone who knows him as a teacher, coach, neighbor and person.”  The union president emphasized that his personal qualities of honesty, humility and kindness make him “the perfect leader and the great choice as Cranston’s next mayor.”

“My priority and pledge to the citizens of Cranston are founded in insuring safe neighborhoods and the protection of their lives and property.  As mayor, I will stand firmly with the police leadership and the line officers of the department who risk their own personal safety every day,” said Hopkins. “In a Hopkins administration, there will be no defunding of the police department.  We will work with residents and build relationships all over Cranston between our police department with its community policing efforts.  Make no mistake, I am committed to keeping this city safe and will make sure our police department has the resources to do its job,” Hopkins added.

Hopkins said his family has extensive ties to law enforcement. “My brothers and nephews are part of the Cranston Police or State Police families. I know the dedication, commitment and sacrifice our police officers make very day.”

“Working together, our public safety personnel will continue to earn the respect they enjoy from Cranston’s residents by responding to routine matters or emergencies with continued professionalism and competence. It will be my honor to lead this team of outstanding front line responders as Cranston’s next chief executive,” said Hopkins.
