Former State Rep. Williams Gets Job at Providence Recreation Dept.

Former Rhode Island State Representative Anastasia Williams is the latest addition to Brett Smiley’s administration.

Williams, who lost her reelection bid for her seat, is the new coordinator for community organizations for the Providence Recreation Department.

“I am the liaison with community organizations for the recreation department,” Williams told GoLocal.

"The goal is to leverage the opportunities to bring more activities and services to Providence children — many of who have been left behind," Williams said.

She said she started on Monday and did not know her exact pay, but other sources said she is being paid $67,653 a year in her new role.

 

 

Williams, Long-Time Legislator and Labor Committee Chair

Willams represented the 9th District in the House from 1993 to 2023.

He served as the chair of the House Labor Committee.

She was an outspoken legislator in calling for the addition of Blacks and Hispanics to be appointed to the Rhode Island judiciary.

The feisty legislator took on most any and all over the years at the State House, including Governor Gina Raimondo, legislative leaders, and business interests.
