Frias Goes Door-to-Door in Mattiello’s District Voicing Opposition to PawSox Stadium Funding

Steve Frias (L) and Nick Mattiello (R)
GOP National Committeeman Steve Frias, who narrowly lost to Speaker of the House Nick Mattiello in the 2016 general election for House District 15, has been going door to door asking Western Cranston voters to voice their opposition to the proposed legislation that would provide a financing scheme for the PawSox totaling $83 million.

Republican Frias went door-to-door with stadium opponent and progressive Democrat David Norton. Norton ran for the House of Representatives in 2016.

The activism sparked anticipation that Frias may seek to take on Mattiello again in the 2018 race.

Mattiello had a huge political win this legislative session when he led the fight to eliminate the auto tax — a tax that has been one of the most unpopular and regressive.

But, the controversies tied to one of his top staffers Frank Montanaro has raised concerns about insider self-dealing.

Frias lost to Mattiello by less than 100 votes.
