GOP to Blame, Not Trump -- Tom Kenney

The former president is currently running for president once again and is proclaiming during his campaign rallies and on his social media account that the charges are completely politically motivated and a weaponization of the Department of Justice at the behest of the Biden Administration. This claim is, once again, the rallying cry espoused by most Republican members and candidates.

The way I see it, the former president is not fit for the office of President of the United States – period. I, however, don’t blame Mr. Trump for the potentially catastrophic results of electing a President who is under multiple indictments or quite possibly even a convicted felon. I put the responsibility directly on the shoulders of 95% of the current Republican Party.
Failing to call out the former president as the criminal he is has huge detrimental effects on our country. Actually supporting his claim that he did nothing wrong, but is actually a victim, is a substantial factor in the reason that over 50% of the American people who identify as Republicans continue to believe that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen by the Democrats and President Biden. Even if these elected officials think this is good for their party, they have to know that it’s a terrible thing for the country.
These Republican lawmakers are afraid of alienating the same voting block that they’re influencing into believing that Trump’s behavior and actions are worthy of the POTUS.
Leaving politics aside, I made my mind up regarding Trump’s worthiness of my vote long ago, at the beginning of his first presidential run. Before he announced his candidacy for President, I really had no real opinion of him one way or the other. There were two separate incidents that occurred early that told me everything I needed to know about the man he was and whether he was worthy or fit for the office.
One was the infamous recording of him talking to the ET reporter about how he sexually assaults women because he’s famous and can get away with it. I don’t have to go into the classless quote he made because everyone remembers it. Everyone should be able to agree that this alone would have been enough in any other Presidential election in our country’s history, no matter who the candidate, to derail the campaign overnight.
While my mind was made up that he didn’t have the character needed to hold our highest office, another incident happened that cemented my decision. The fact that he could stand on a podium asking the American people to trust that he could provide the leadership this country desperately needs and, through his words and bodily impressions, insult and make jest of a handicapped reporter told me that my previous judgment of his character was justified.
This type of behavior is what he’s engaged in during his entire life and is not surprising. Because of this I can’t really blame him for the terrible position this country is presently facing. He is, if nothing else, consistent. It’s the acceptance of this type of behavior that is the real problem. That is not Donald Trump’s fault. It is the fault of those in political power who act as if there is nothing wrong. They are the cowards who are afraid of alienating the MAGA voters.
This country desperately needs leaders who can do what’s right and stand up against dangers and threats to our democracy and our way of life. Country over party!
