Gorbea Urges Candidates to Note Upcoming Filing Deadline

Nellie Gorbea Urges Candidates to File Declaration of Candidacy
Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea is reminding those who are looking to run for office that they must field a Declaration of Candidacy form on June 25, 26 or 27 by 4 p.m. to be eligible.

"As Secretary of State, I encourage all Rhode Islanders to play an active role in our state's future and applaud those who have an interest in public service. I encourage all candidates to view the latest updates to vote.ri.gov and the 2018 How to Run for Office Guide as they prepare to run for office this fall,” said Gorbea.

Declaring for Candidacy

Those looking to declare candidacy can complete the declaration form online and print it out. Candidates must then sign it and have their signature witnessed by two individuals.

Candidates for Congressional or Statewide office must deliver or mail the signed form to the Elections Division of the Department of State so it is received on June 25, 26, or 27 by 4 p.m.

Candidates for municipal or General Assembly offices must either deliver or mail the signed form to the board of canvassers in the city or town where they are registered to vote on June 25, 26, or 27 by 4 p.m.
