Lombardi Won't Run for Providence Mayor, Seeks House Reelection

John Lombardi will run for re-election in District 8
State Representative -- and former interim Providence Mayor -- John Lombardi said Sunday he will not run for Mayor of Providence in 2018, and will seek re-election for his seat in the Rhode Island General Assembly.

"The plan was to raise money -- to be competitive, you need to raise $500,000," said Lombardi, who has represented House District 8 in Providence since first being elected in 2012.

At the end of the first quarter in 2018, Lombardi had just over $75,000 cash-on-hand.

"My passion is the neighborhood -- I'll continue to speak out on Providence issues, and work on statewide ones as well," Lombardi told GoLocal.

In April, GoLocal reported that a poll conducted by Lombardi showed Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza could be vulnerable in his re-election bid for Providence Mayor.

As GoLocal reported:

A new poll conducted among likely Democratic Providence voters shows that despite only one announced opponent, Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza faces significant challenges to re-election.

The poll was conducted by John Zogby Strategies — Zogby has been one of the top pollsters over the past three decades. The poll was commissioned by State Representative John Lombardi’s campaign.
