Improving our quality of life: We need to create and preserve jobs that allow workers to not depend on state aid to make ends meet, improving our infrastructure, eliminating regressive taxes such as the car tax, and make Rhode Island more friendly so our retirees are not forced to leave because of the high cost of living in the state.

2. What do we need to do to improve Rhode Island's economy?

We are losing too much of our talent to other states because young people see opportunities elsewhere. We also need to provide those opportunities in RI with good paying jobs with training/re-training (apprenticeships) of the workforce. Our future is at stake if we don't act now to improve our workforce.

3. What is the greatest challenge facing Rhode Island as a state?

We need an aggressive economic development strategy that preserves and creates jobs here in Rhode Island. We need to have a skilled and educated workforce to fill the needs of employers in the state. By improving our economy, we can lower our reliance on state aid, and return the savings to our over burden taxpayers.

4. Why are you running for office?

I see a general assembly dominated by special interests, lawyers and others. I believe that I will bring the perspective of someone new to the process without an agenda. I represent the working women & men and their families by bringing about change, progress and growth for our state.

5. Who is your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from my three children Taylor, Hank and Reese. My focus is To change our culture so that our state has the ability to offer our children opportunities to remain in Rhode Island and to raise their families in our home state. Also,I aspire to  make our state friendly to our retirees so they are not forced to leave their families, friends and homes.

Lavallee is married to his wife Claudia, has three children  (Taylor, Hank and Reese) and has lved in district 17 for over 30 years, last 2 years in Lincoln. He is the business owner of a family owned business and director of training of workforce development. Lavallee attended North Providence, CCRI and RIC.
