NEW: Adrain Kicks Off Campaign for Providence Mayoral Run

Standing in front of family, friends and supporters Monday morning, Lorne Adrain officially launched his campaign for mayor of Providence.

"The biggest problems are the ones that we must run toward - not away from," said Adrian. "And here in Providence that means stepping up to some big challenges. But for far too many children and families, potential and possibility remain a distant dream and the Promise of Providence is unfulfilled.

“Today is about returning potential, possibility and promise to everyone in this great city. I will focus on rebuilding our economy and create new and better paying jobs, turn our schools into places that ignite a passion for learning, opening and build a safer and more vibrant community not just for the next eight years, but for generations to come.”

Adrain, a Fox Point resident, is regarded for his acumen in business and in the community. A graduate of Warwick Vets High, the University of Rhode Island, and Harvard Business School, Adrain served as an executive at AT&T before becoming a managing director at Ballentine Partners, where he continues to work. In addition, Adrain has also served on the boards of several nonprofits, including Social Venture Partners RI, RI Area Coalition for Excellence, and the Rhode Island Foundation, which he directs.

Adrain joins a host of candidates seeking the Democratic nomination, including City Council President Michael Solomon, former Housing Court Judge Jorge Elorza, and former Chair of the Providence Water Supply Board Brett Smiley, with others perhaps yet to join the race.
