Igliozzi has been on the City Council since 1997 and represents Ward 7, which encompasses the westernmost neighborhoods of Hartford and Silver Lake.
"I am weighing all options at this point - how my candidacy would fit in a position, and what the public thinks," said Igliozzi. "[General Treasurer] is a seat I'm considering."

Other potential candidates in the Democratic primary for General Treasurer — for the seat being vacated by term-limited Seth Magaziner, who is running for Governor — include House Finance Chair Marvin Abney, who has over $163,000 cash on hand and former Central Falls Mayor James Diossa, whose war chest currently stands at just under $30,000.
Other possible primary opponents included State Senator Ryan Pearson -- who has over $134,000 cash on hand, and Rhode Island Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor.
Igliozzi on Record
Igliozzi served as the Chairman of the Providence City Council Finance Committee for 14 years, before he was recently elected City Council President in April 2021, after former Council President Sabina Matos was named Lt. Governor.
"I have to start by saying that I’m honored and privileged to have been elected all these decades by my constituents," said Igliozzi.
Igliozzi told GoLocal that he is weighing a "number of different options" -- and that discussions with family, friends, and advisors are paramount.
"We’re seeing if my pragmatic approach to governing and management fits that type of role," said Igliozzi.
"It’s important on these types of journeys that your friends and family are willing to support you and willing to go on that journey with you," he added.
