Foulkes' new TV ad
Here Come the Ads

Former corporate executive and Democratic candidate for Governor Helena Buonanno Foulkes has released her campaign's first video ad, kicking off the final 120 days until the Democratic primary.

The ad is a bio spot and ties Foulkes directly to her experience at CVS -- where she was President of CVS Pharmacy.

The ad -- a 60-second introduction spot titled 'Big Things' -- begins airing this week.

She is the first of the gubernatorial Democrats to launch a video ad.

Councilor Oscar Vargas
Providence City Councilman Oscar Vargas Announces Reelection

Democrat Oscar Vargas, who won the seat for the 15th Ward when Sabina Matos was named Lt. Governor, has announced his reelection bid.

Vargas beat Matos’ hand-picked candidate Doris De Los Santos.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Councilman for the past 9 months. During this time I have had the opportunity to visit every street in Ward 15. Working together we have picked up more than 300 mattresses and have cleaned up our streets of much of the abandoned and unwanted furniture that has been left on our sidewalks and in our neighborhoods," said Vargas.

We have replaced many trash and recycle bins and have planted more than 90 trees in our neighborhoods in an effort to create a cleaner environment for our residents. Increased communications with our Police Department has led to increased police patrols as well as community police officers on our streets in an effort to create a safer environment for our community,” he said.

Case Running for Council in Cranston

Republican Jason Case, a resident of Ward 3 in Cranston, announced his candidacy to run for Cranston City Council – Ward 3 with the following statement:

“My Name is Jason Case. I have lived in the Laurel Hill neighborhood of Cranston with my wife and 2 children for the last 17 years. I am a Sales & Marketing VP with Chicago-based Ambir Technology, that specializes in hardware IT products. My wife is a Kindergarten teacher at Arlington Elementary School in Cranston. The last 17 years has been an amazing time for my wife and I as our children have grown, and we’ve become more attached to our community through sports, activities, friends, and work.  However, over the last few years I have started to notice more changes that are breaking the bonds that have held our wonderful community together.  I am seeing more violence and crime, more liter on our streets, and more people being forced out of the community due to ever-increasing rents and a shortage of affordable housing.  Ward 3 is a proud and historic community full of diversity and hard-working families and it’s critical we continue to make it a desirable and sustainable community for current and new families.

Over the next 6 months, I will meet with and listen to the residents of Ward 3 and work with you on building a better community with a focus on health, safety, education, and opportunities for us to work together to build a more united and stronger community.  Unlike my opponent, as a candidate, I bring no insider political pedigree.  I do not have the backing of activist groups or special interests.  I bring with me 17 years as a resident of Laurel Hill in Ward 3 with a commitment to the community. I want to make Cranston better for all citizens, not just select groups."
