Toll Opponents Targeting RI Legislative Leaders Next Week with "Phone Flash Mob"

A "flash mob" of phone calls into Rhode Island legislators has been scheduled for next week by anti-toll opponents.

The Coalition Radio has the rotating schedule of times for toll opponents to inundate members offices with phone calls in two hour blocks for four days next week, starting with Speaker Mattiello's office on Monday.

Pat Ford with the Coalition Radio, who had helped spearhead the PawSox anti-stadium effort last year, said that the "flash mob" had been effective.

"The Flash Phone Mob employed by the anti-stadium movement was highly effective on several counts," said Ford. "In many cases, it brought taxpayers into direct contact with their legislators for the first time. Legislators could no longer deny the degree of taxpayer frustration, as opinions were accorded a level of raw emotion that social media could never convey. Finally, it produced for many a sense of empowerment, and subsequent success that had never been experienced before."

Ford said that the coalition StopTollsRI.com is behind the effort, with a number of advocacy organizations taking part as well.

Flash Mob Explained

According to the Coalition, the purpose of next week's effort is as follows:

The StopRollsRI Coalition is supporting and promoting a massive call-in campaign to officials across the State of Rhode Island to firmly state that we will not tolerate the construction of tolls as part of a dubious plan to finance, through generational debt, the reconstruction of Rhode Island's roads and bridges. In the spirit of civil disobedience and peaceful protest, we are asking Rhode Islanders to flood the switchboards of the Statehouse, House & Senate Leadership, as well as your local State Representatives and Senators.

Below, you will find a short script, a schedule, a list of phone numbers, and a link that will guide you  to the contact information for your representatives in the General Assembly. We are asking that you stick to the schedule, so as to flood state switchboards and email servers to the point of SHUTTING THEM DOWN
