3 RI Natives Set to Tee it up in 54th Northeast Amateur

The 54th Northeast Amateur Invitational Golf Tournament  is set to get under way at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island with the first round starting on Wednesday, June 25 with the first tee time starting at 8 a.m.

The Field

This year's Northeast Amateur field features three Rhode Island natives, including Warwick's Charlie Blanchard, Rhode Island High School Golf State Champion Will Dickson and Coventry's Bobby Leopold. The field also includes University of Rhode Island stand out Joe Leavitt.

This year's field  includes past champions such as 1996 winner Jason Enloe, 1990 winner Todd White and defending champion Stewart Jolly from LSU. Led by Jolly, the LSU men's golf team won the 2015 NCAA Golf National Championship.

The final round is set for Saturday, June 27 with the first group going off at 7 a.m.  and the leaders going off at 11 a.m.

The final round will be followed by closing ceremonies and an awards presentation.

The Northeast Amateur

The Northeast Amateur began in 1962 and has since grown to the fourth best amateur golf event  in the world, out of 700 events ranked by the R & A World Amateur Ranking.

Past amateur champions include Brett Quigley, Dustin Johnson, Luke Donald, David Duval and Ben Crenshaw.  

Since 2000, 40% of the winners on the PGA Tour played in the Northeast Amateur.
