The deal helped the New England Patriots free up $5.5 million of salary-cap space this year.

The extension was announced one day after Brady's 42nd birthday. Brady could become the first QB in NFL history to start all 16 regular-season games at age 42.

On Sunday, Brady posted a picture of his draft card from 2000 on Twitter.
