Patriots Pick Quarterback, 4 Other Players on Final Day of NFL Draft
New England selected Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon in Nashville, Tennessee.
“Tom Brady is obviously a great player and, from what I’ve heard, a great teammate. So I’m just looking forward to spending some time with him. You can’t play for 20 years and not have so much knowledge of the game, so just being able to sit there and soak up everything that he’s gone through and pick his brain here and there about different things,” said Stidham in a conference call with the media following the draft.

The Patriots picks are as follows:
Round 4, Pick 118 Overall
With the 118th overall pick in the draft, the Patriot selected guard Hjalte Froholdt out of Arkansas.
Froholdt is listed at 6’5”, 306 pounds and is a native of Denmark.
At Arkansas, he started as a defensive player before switching to the offensive line after his freshman season.
Round 4, Pick 133 Overall
At the 133rd overall pick, the Patriots took Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
Stidham, who is listed at 6’3”, was the Tigers starting quarterback for two seasons after transferring from Baylor.
In his final year at Auburn, Stidham threw for 2,794 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions for a completion percentage of 60.7.
“He is a pretty productive player, the system is probably a little bit different then what he is going to play in here, but, really smart kid, we had a number of interactions with him along the way. Smart kid, protects the football, pretty good arm strength, fairly athletic, he isn’t a running quarterback, but has those skills. He will certainly be competitive with the other players we have at that position,” said Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio in his post-draft press conference.
New England’s quarterback depth chart now consists of Brady, Brian Hoyer, Danny Etling, and Stidham.
Round 5, Pick 159 overall
New England traded up to acquire this pick as they originally did not have a fifth-round pick.
The Patriots traded the 162nd pick and the 239th pick to the Vikings for the 159th pick.
With the pick, the Patriots took Maryland defensive lineman Byron Cowart.
Cowart, who is listed at 6’4”, 293 pounds, recorded 38 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions in his final season at Maryland.
Round 5, Pick 163 Overall
With the 163rd overall pick in the draft, the Patriots selected punter Jake Bailey out of Stanford.
Bailey was named All Pac-12 in each of the past three seasons at Stanford and is the school’s all-time carer punting leader.
Bailey is expected to challenge current Patriots punter Ryan Allen at training camp.
Round 7, Pick 252 Overall
With their final pick in the NFL Draft, the Patriots took Ole Miss cornerback Ken Webster.
Webster, who is listed at 5’11,” posted a career-high two interceptions and had 30 tackles in his last season with the Rebels.
He is expected to compete with J.C. Jackson, Keion Crossen, Duke Dawson, and second-round pick Joejuan Williams for a spot on the roster.
