Brady Throws 500th Touchdown Pass, Patriots Beat Colts 38-24

Tom Brady threw his 500th career touchdown pass
Tom Brady threw his 500th career touchdown pass as the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 38-24 on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.

Brady becomes only the third quarterback in history to throw 500 touchdown passes and the only quarterback to do it with one team.

“I just think of all the people that really worked hard. You know a quarterback doesn’t throw them to himself, he needs people to catch them and block and defenses to make plays and coaches to coach. These are all great team awards,” said Brady in his post-game press conference.

The win improves the Patriots to 3-2 on the season.

Patriots Hold Off Indianapolis

After the Patriots led 24-3 at the half, the Colts scored a touchdown in the third quarter and early in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game, 24-17, with 12:48 to go in the game.

On the Patriots ensuing possession, Brady connected with Josh Gordon on a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Patriots a 31-17 lead after the extra point by Stephen Gostkowski.

The touchdown pass was Brady’s 500th of his career.

“To catch any pass from Tom is amazing, let alone a history-making pass. You know for him, I told him congratulations and hopefully, there are many more to come, I hope he has a lot of them left in him, I’m pretty sure he does,” said Gordon after the game.

After the Patriots defense forced a turnover, New England would extend their lead when running back Sony Michel took a handoff 34-yards to the end zone to push the Patriots lead to 38-17 after a Gostkowski extra point.

The Colts would add a late touchdown with just over a minute to go to make the final score 38-24.

Brady finished the game completing 34 of 44 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Edelman Returns

Julian Edelman returned to the Patriots lineup after serving his four-game suspension.

He got involved early in the game as Brady found him on the first offensive play of the game.  Edelman finished with three catches for 28 yards on the opening drive.

Overall, Edelman finished the game with seven catches for 57 yards.

“It was great. Obviously, there are things we need to work on, but it was good to go out there and catch some rocks, make some plays and be with the fellas,” said Edelman in his post-game press conference.
