The Ivy League has sent two teams to the Final Four in decades past [Princeton in 1965 and Penn in 1979], and in recent years, some of the Ivy squads have pulled off some epic upsets.

In 1996, Princeton beat defending NCAA champs UCLA.

In 2016, Yale upset #5-seeded Baylor in Providence.

This year’s tournament saw Yale beat #4-seeded Auburn in the opening round.

But this year, many of the Ivy League’s most talented players are heading to the transfer portal. Yale, Harvard and Brown are poised to lose much of their respective talent.

The Ivy League could historically sell that its basketball was competitive, and the value of a prestigious degree gave players a competitive advantage in their post-playing careers.

But, with NIL money changing the economics, star players are considering more than just the diploma.

Here is a list of the stars and the schools they are leaving:

- Kalu Anya, a 6’8” forward at Brown. The sophomore was likely to be a pre-season all-Ivy selection in 2024-25. He entered the portal this week.

- Nana Owusu-Anane, Brown’s second-best player after Kino Lilly, Sr. this past season. He was a second team all-Ivy this past season.

- Harvard star freshman point guard Malik Mack entered the transfer portal. He was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year. He signed to play for Coach Ed Cooley at Georgetown next season.

- And, Yale took a big hit. All-Ivy and ultra-talented 7’0” Danny Wolf, who averaged 14.4 points and a league-leading 9.7 rebounds per game, has entered the portal. Wolf is a strong ball-handling athletic talent.
