Brown Football Coach Estes Joins LIVE Monday to Discuss Brown's Game at Fenway

Phil Estes will lead Brown football against Dartmouth at Fenway Park

Brown University football head coach Phil Estes will join GoLocal LIVE to talk about Brown’s 2017 game against Dartmouth at Fenway Park in Boston. 

Estes will be on LIVE on Monday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m. Brown will play Dartmouth at Fenway on November 10, 2017.

"Fenway Park is a special place, even if you are not from New England. I know our players will light up when they walk on to the hallowed turf at Fenway and look up at the Green Monster. I expect a huge turnout from our alumni base and Brown community, who will embrace supporting our team in one of the nation's greatest treasures,” said Estes when the game was announced.

In Estes’ time at Brown, he has led the team to three Ivy League titles (1999, 2005, 2008) as well as four second place finishes and five third place finishes. 

His 76 career Ivy League wins are the most ever at Brown and rank sixth in the Ivy League, while his 112 overall wins rank 10th all-time in the Ivy League.  

Before Estes came to Brown, the program had one Ivy League Championship in the previous 42 years of Ivy League competition. 

He is the second winningest coach in Brown football history and has seen five of his players go on to win Super Bowl rings, including New England Patriots fullback James Develin. 

"I had a great time in my four years at Brown, I'm a proud alumni and, I try to stop down there and see, you know, my coaching staff is still down there, see Coach Estes, Coach McGrath, Coach Sheehan and Coach Kelleher, all those guys down there. It's a great group of guys, and we are all like a big family there so it's great," Develin told GoLocal during Patriots training camp in 2015. 

Estes’ Road to the Brown Head Coach Job  

Before coming to Brown, Estes started his coaching career as an offensive line coach at the University of New Hampshire in 1984.The University of New Hampshire job followed a two year run at Concord High School. 

Following three years as the offensive coordinator at New Hampshire Estes came to Brown in 1994 as running backs coach. 

In that position, he helped Brown running back Marquis Jessie to 910 yards rushing in 1996, the second best rushing performance in Brown History. 

Estes went from running backs coach to receivers coach in 1997. In that position he helped develop Sean Morey into the 1997 Ivy League Player of the Year. Morey would go on to be the special teams captain of the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006. 

Estes would take over the head coaching position in 1998 and lead Brown to a 7-3 overall record, winning the final six games of the season. 

He and his wife, Katie, live in East Greenwich with their two daughters, Meaghan and Kelly, and their son, Brett '18, who plays for the Brown football team.

The Bears and Big Green will met for the 95th time dating back to 1894. This will be the third game in the all-time series that will be played at Fenway Park, the first two coming in 1922 and 1923. 

"Fenway Park is an iconic New England landmark and we are excited about the unique opportunity to play a football game there. It will be an unforgettable experience for our team members, alumni, and fans," said Jack Hayes, Brown Director of Athletics. 

Brown beat Dartmouth 24-21 at Brown Stadium this past season, finishing the year with a 4-6 record overall.
