NEW: Bill Murray's Son, Luke, Leaves URI Basketball For Xavier

Xavier Musketeers head men's basketball coach Chris Mack has announced the hiring of URI assistant Luke Murray, the son of actor and comedian Bill Murray.

"Luke is one of the top young assistant coaches in America. His efforts recently at Towson and URI have demonstrated his ability to both attract talented players and coach them successfully. I have known Luke for a number of years and it is evident he has a passion for Xavier Basketball," said Mack in a statement on the school's website.  

At Xavier, Murray will fill the opening left by Rick Carter who left the program to join DePaul as an associate coach.

Luke Murray 

Murray joined Dan Hurley and URI prior to the 2013 season after being an assistant at Towson for two seasons and an assistant at Wagner for one season under Dan Hurley prior to that. . 

Murray helped URI to an overall record of 23-10 and a conference record of 13-5 in the 2014-15 season, helping the Rams get back to the NIT for the first time since 2010.
