Brown Basketball Gets Verbal Commit From Forward Paul Newman

Brown men's basketball has received a verbal commitment from 6'6" forward Paul Newman for the freshman class of 2017. 

Newman is from from Roman Catholic High School in Pennsylvania and will do a post grad year at St. Andrews next year before joining the Bears in 2017, according to ESPN's Adam Finkelstein. 

Newman was also part of Nike Team Final, an elite travel basketball program based in Philadelphia.

He is rated as a two star recruit by verbalcommits.com. 

Newman will join David Erebor as part of the 2017 freshman class. 

Erebor is a 6'9" forward from Maryland who committed to Brown in September of 2015.

Who Else is Brown Looking at

The Bears are also part of a mix of teams interested in 6'9" forward Jarrod Simmons from Cushing Academy in Pennsylvania. 

Simmons is listed as a three star recruit by ESPN and is also being recruited by Providence, VCU, St. Bonaventure and Texas. 

Simmons would be part of the 2018 freshman class. 

Brown is also in the mix for Barrington, Rhode Island's Matt DeWolf, a 6'9" forward playing at Northfield Mount Hermon School 

DeWolf is also being recruited by Dartmouth. 

Like Simmons, DeWolf would also be part of the 2018 freshman class. 

Brown Basketball 

This past season, the Bears went 8-20 overall and 3-11 in the Ivy League. 

At the end of the season, they lost forward Cedric Kuakumensah, the Ivy League's All-Time blocked shots leader, to graduation. 

Following the upcoming 2016-17 season, the Bears are set to lose a slew of players to graduation including Steven Spieth, JR Hobbie and Tavon Blackmon.
