Dont’a Hightower

Hightower tested the free agent waters in the offseason before returning to the Patriots on a 4-year deal worth $43.5 million.

He was present for spring practices, but did not participate. Instead, he did conditioning work off to the side.  He was placed on PUP just prior to training camp starting.

In 2016, Hightower was named a team captain for the first time and finished the year with 65 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and eight quarterback hits.

He was limited most of last season with knee and shoulder injuries.

Other Players Returning

Nate Solder, Deatrich Wise and LaAdrian Waddle also returned to the practice field on Tuesday.

Solder has not yet seen any preseason action, while Wise missed the Patriots last game against Houston with a head injury.

Waddle suffered a head injury in last week’s game against the Texans.

Players Missing

Rex Bulkhead, Malcolm Mitchell, Matthew Slater, Shea Mcclellan, Tony Garcia, Matt Lengel, Derek Rivers and Andrew Jelks were among the players missing.

Patriots vs Lions

The Patriots will play their third game of the preseason on Friday, August 25 in Detroit against the Lions.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.
