Chiefs Take Control

The Patriots held a 27-21 lead following a Stephen Gostkowski field goal with nine seconds left in the third quarter.

Kansas City would then score 14 straight points in the fourth to grab control of the game.

Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith connected with Kareem Hunt on a 78-yard touchdown pass to give the Chiefs a 28-27 lead following an extra point by kicker Cairo Santos.

Kansas City would add to the lead when Hunt would take a handoff from Smith four yards to the end zone to put the Chiefs up 35-27 following a Santos extra point.

Kansas City's Charcandrick West would put the game on ice with four minutes left in the fourth quarter with a 21-yard touchdown run to put Kansas City up 42-27 after a Santos extra point.

Smith threw for four touchdowns and 368 yards.

Patriots Miss Chance to Take Control

The Patriots missed an opportunity to take control of the game in the first quarter.

Gillislee scored his first touchdown of the game to put the Patriots up 7-0.

On the next defensive possession, the Patriots forced Hunt to fumble and managed to recover it to take over possession deep in Kansas City territory.

Tom Brady found Rob Gronkowski in the end zone for a touchdown, but upon review, it was called back as the ball hit the ground.

Three plays later, the Patriots went for it on fourth and one, but Gillislee was stopped short of the first down, giving the Chiefs the ball back only down seven.

Gillislee would be stopped on another fourth and one in the third quarter.

Brady went 16 of 36 for 270 yards in the game.

Injuries Pile Up

The Patriots suffered two more injuries in the game in the form of linebacker Dont'a Hightower and wide receiver Danny Amendola.

Hightower left the game in the third quarter with a knee injury and did not return. He remained on the sideline with a heating pack on his leg.

Amendola left the game late in the third quarter with a head injury. He was ruled out of the game early in the fourth quarter.

Prior to the game, the Patriots announced that wide reciever Malcolm Mitchell was placed on injured reserve.
