The New England Patriots released punter Ryan Allen after six seasons on Monday.

Allen’s departure means that rookie Jake Bailey will take the starting job.

While in New England, Allen helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls and get to four.

In New England’s last Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams, Allen was a huge factor in the Patriots 13-3 win.

Of his five punts, three of them pinned LA inside the 10-yard line.

About Bailey

The Patriots drafted Bailey in the fifth round of the 2019 draft out of Stanford University.

New England traded up to get him.

Bailey can also handle kickoffs, which the Patriots could use to give Stephen Gostkowski a break.

Bailey has been used on kickoffs numerous times throughout training camp.

Last season, New England ranked last in the league with regards to the starting field position of opponents after kickoffs.
